As summer fades and we head into fall, the Legion Riders are not slowing
down. In fact, for September, the pace picks up a notch or two.
After the Fair, comes Labor Day followed quickly by the 9/11 Remembrance
Run. Interested riders will meet up and head for Vancouver to begin the Run
from Vancouver to Blaine. This run serves a two-fold purpose. We remember
What happened on 9/11/01 and we raise money for the American Legion Legacy
Scholarship Fund. This fund is established to benefit children who have lost
a parent on active duty since 9/11.
Speaking of the Fund, our bike raffle ticket sales are ahead of schedule. We
have just over 300 tickets left to sell with about 2 1/2 months to finish.
The drawing will be held on Veteran's Day, November 11, at the Legion Hall.
Our first breakfast of this season is scheduled for Sunday September 19. Be
sure to come on down and get Chef Gary's famous biscuits and gravy.
This year the Time of Remembrance is set for September 25 and 26. This is a
special time for the Washington families that have lost a loved one in the
War On Terror. Sunday morning at Flattop Park in West Richland is a touching
and dignified time to pay tribute to our fallen heroes. I encourage all
Legion Family members to attend. Your hearts will be touched and the
families of the Heroes will be grateful to know that so many care.
There's also fun rides scheduled including the Crime stoppers Run in
Kennewick and the Hogs on the Highway run in Yakima.
As you can see, the Legion Riders are still hard charging and riding far.
Until next month,
Pray for our Warriors in Harm's Way,
Ken Hubbell

The goals of the American Legion Riders are:
·Promote American Legion membership.
·Use our programs to support veterans' issues, veterans' homes and hospitals.
·Provide a social atmosphere for our American Legion and Legion Riders families.
·Promote motorcycle safety and motorcycle riders rights.
·Participate in runs, events and charitable functions within our communities.
·Participate in parades and other ceremonies that are in keeping with the aims and purposes of the American Legion.
Dan Denchel of Desert Valley Power Sports in Prosser has set us up with new
motorcycle to raffle off and raise money for the American Legion Legacy
Scholarship Fund.
If you want to support a very worthwhile cause, ask any member of the ALR for tickets. Who knows, you might even win a gorgeous 2009 Yamaha Raider (it's red - with flames!). Help us spread the word. It's not about the bike; it's about the Legacy Fund and the children of our Fallen Warriors.
The Legacy Scholarship fund raffle is in progress to raise funds for this worthy program. Through The American Legion Legacy Scholarship, the Legion works to ensure children of U.S. service members who died on or after Sept. 11, 2001, receive equal opportunities in their pursuit of higher learning. http://www.legion.org/scholarships
